September 15, 2009 Pratt Industries Celebrates Official Grand Opening of Shreveport/Bossier City 100% Recycled Paperboard Mill ________________________ 11:30 a.m / September 15, 2009 SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER CITY, LA - Pratt Industries will celebrate the Official Grand Opening of their Shreveport-Bossier City 100% Recycled Paperboard Mill on Tuesday, September 15 at 11:30 a.m. Joining Mr. Anthony Pratt for this special occasion will be The Honorable Bobby Jindal Governor of Louisiana, The Honorable Cedric Glover Mayor of Shreveport and The Honorable Lo Walker Mayor of Bossier City and the President of the Caddo-Bossier Parishes Port Commission, Mr. James Pannell.
The new Pratt Paperboard Mill is a 212,000 square foot facility and the Pratt Material Recycling Facility (MRF) is another 30,000 square feet. According to Mr. Anthony Pratt, "This magnificent facility, which will help usher in a new dawn of lightweight packaging in America, is a dream come true for our company and my family. I'd like to also say a special "Thank You" to Governor Bobby Jindal for providing a healthy business climate for environmental companies like ours to grow and invest in waste recovery - a great 21st century industry for Louisiana." At capacity, the Italian-made Overmechanica machine will produce 360,000 tons of 100% recycled containerboard a year.
"We are thrilled to see the Pratt family's dream come to fruition at the Port of Shreveport-Bossier. As the third Pratt paper mill in America, our local and regional economy has and will benefit greatly from the $160 million investment and the $133 million in sustained economic impact each year. This is a great example of the type of business environment we're building in greater Shreveport, and I have been proud to work with the Governor and the North Louisiana Economic Partnership to facilitate this new industry expansion in our area," said The Honorable Cedric Glover Mayor of The City of Shreveport.
According to The Honorable Lo Walker Mayor of The City of Bossier City, "The addition of this new mill will have a tremendous economic impact on our area. I applaud Pratt Industries and the Port of Shreveport Bossier for their hard work in bringing this project to Northwest Louisiana and making such a significant investment in our community."
BACKGROUND: The decision to select the Port of Shreveport-Bossier came after an extensive due diligence process involving several states. On July 11, 2007, The Port of Shreveport-Bossier was selected to become home to a major paper recycling mill by Pratt Industries, the largest privately held paper and packaging company in the world. The Port of Shreveport-Bossier would become the site of Pratt Industries' 3rd United States Waste Paper Recycling Mill.
- ØTHE FACILITIES: The new facilities include a MRF (Material Recovery Facility where recyclables are sorted and processed and high-tech lightweight mill which can now convert waste paper and old corrugated boxes into 100% recycled paperboard.
- ØEconomic Impact of new Pratt Mill:
- o The mill represents a $160 million investment
- o The site now employs 120 full-time employees
- o Annual payroll will exceed $6.3 Million
- o During construction, more than 1600 direct and indirect jobs were created, stimulating the economy by $227 million
- o Estimated annual sustained economic impact will be more than $133 million
